What is Massage Therapy?
Can it help me?
Most people think of massage as something that just feels good. And it does! but medical researach is showing that massage does more. In study after study, massage has been shown to lower cortisol levels (a stress hormone), help newborns gain weight faster, increase air flow and improve pumonary functions in asthmatic patients, decrease glucose levels in diabetic children, even imporve math scores! As we increase our knowledge about massage, it becomes more apparent that it is good preventative health care. And for your benefit Kismet Inn Bed and Breakfast Spa offers these different modalities of massage and other body works.
Couples Massage
Each person will have a massage with long flowing strokes, gentle kneading and easy stretches to increase circulation, ease muscle tension and relax the body and mind.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep Tissue or Therapeutic Massage is for those who like deeper pressure and more focused work on any trouble areas such as neck, shoulders, feet or back.
Hot Stone Massage
Hot Stone Massage, Maine Tumbled Hot Stone Massage uses heated Maine ocean tumbled stones to massage and knead tight and tired muscles. The Hot Stones create a deep sense of relaxation for both body and mind. Smooth, black stones from a Maine island are heated in water and used on the body to melt away tension, tightness and create improved blood flow to muscles and tendons.
Heavenly Hands and Feet
Heavenly Hands and Feet. Spend 45 minutes in heaven! This treatment begins with a soothing footbath while your hands are massaged and then rubbed with a gentle exfoliation, dipped in paraffin and moisturized. The whole procedure is repeated on your feet.
Reflexotherapy
Reflexotherapy is what reflexology is called in Paraguay. The session starts with 20 minutes of foot reflexology. Reflexology complements massage and other physical therapies by reducing stress and tension in the internal glands and organs of the body and relieving stress from parts of the body that are too painful to be directly worked on. The remaining 40 minutes is a relaxing fullbody Swedish massage. Studies of reflexology and massage have shown that blood and lymph circulation improves. These physiological benefits facilitate improvement in the body's assimilation of nutrients, elimination of wastes, and the functions of the immune system.
Around the world, scientific research has shown that reflexology is an effective therapy for a diverse range of
health conditions: P.M.S., kidney stones, constipation, childbirth, arthritis, internal pain, tension headaches and the pain suffered by persons with terminal cancer, and, diabetes mellitus type II.
Reflexology
Reflexology is a system of reflexes. There is a map of the body on the feet, hands and ears. Working with finger, thumb and hand techniques on the reflex points that correspond to all body parts, relieves stress, induces deep relaxation, increases circulation of the entire body and helps you feel better. Everyone responds differently. Some of my clients find it helps their health condition dramatically, others that it helps keep their condition controlled while receiving regular reflexology sessions, and still others find it relaxing though it doesn't seem to help their condition.
Shiatsu
Shiatsu is a Japanese form of bodywork that works with the same points as acupuncture, but without using needles. It is performed on a mat or massage table, and the client remains fully clothed. It is a very calming form of bodywork that incorporates stretches, pressure points and massage. It helps ease muscle stiffness, shoulder and lower back pain, insomnia, chronic pain, migraines, emotional problems such as anxiety and depression, and a host of other problems. It combines the benefits of massage, yoga, and energy work to create a truly holistic therapy for increased relaxation and a sense of well-being.
Swedish Massage
Swedish Massage uses long flowing strokes, gentle
kneading and easy stretches to increase circulation, ease
muscle tension and relax the body and mind.
Thai Massage
Also known as ancient massage has its origins in the healing arts of India. It is said to have spread to Thailand at the time of the Buddha and was developed in the temples there as an important part of aligning energy in the body. It promotes relaxation, health, suppleness in the body, energy and a sense of well being. It is done on a thick mat where the practitioner massages energy lines and acupressure points, stretches and opens joints, and meditates on health and loving-kindness for the recipient. The person receiving the massage wears loose fitting clothing and enjoys relaxation and renewed energy. Thai massage promotes the body’s natural ability to heal itself.
Reiki
{ Reiki }
(pronounced Ray-Kee) is the ancient practice of bringing balance and health to the self, or other beings, by channel- ling spiritually guided life force energy through the hands. The practitioner is required to go through training and an attunement process with a Reiki Master. After the first attunement, which opens the chakras, or energy centers of the body, the practice of Reiki itself opens us to the greater possibilities of physical well being, mental clarity, emotional balance, and spiritual awareness. By gently placing the hands on or above the fully clothed body, a limitless supply of healing energy becomes available, through the practitioner, to the person being treated. Reiki reminds us of our true, sacred nature, and asks us to take an active role in our healing process.
